Twitter API version 1.0 retired last month. Since then our Twiget Twitter Widget WordPress plugin has stopped working. Yesterday we released Twiget Twitter Widget version 1.1. It is now fully compatible with Twitter API 1.1
Retrieving someone’s tweets is not so easy with Twitter API 1.1. All requests to Twitter API must be authenticated. So it took us some time to update the plugin. But we finally did it. This update not only makes it compatible with Twitter API v1.1, but also brings you more features like option to show profile picture, bio etc.,
Twitter has put some limitations in API v1.1. For example, you can make only 180 requests per 15 minutes. So now the tweets are cached for some minimum time depending on the number of widget instances in your site.
After updating or installing the plugin, you’ll have to enter your Twitter API credentials in Twiget Settings page. Instructions about getting the API credentials can be found in the same page. We strongly recommend you to use those API keys in only one site.
If you’ve already installed Twiget v1.0, you can update it by going to Dashboard –> Updates. You can get a fresh copy of Twiget 1.1 here http://wordpress.org/plugins/twiget/. If you have any issues with this plugin, please make use of support forum.
Note: This plugin uses Abraham’s twitteroauth library.
